How often does one not hear a parent
boast about his child by saying: “He does not have a frightened hair on
his head, he would tackle anything.”
Proof Of Courage
However, this is no proof of courage. If you have no fear, then you don’t need courage. Actually, the courageous one is the person who is afraid. Such a victory over himself is a genuine example of true courage and also a sign of strong character
A Face Like A Martyr
One day, there was a group of children at a school swimming pool. All but one of them, dived off the diving board or jumped in. The exception stood alone on one side. His little face was that of a martyr. The other children provoked and abused him for being a coward.
Mark Of A True Hero
Eventually the little guy got onto the diving board. His face was ashen, his eyes full of fear and drops of sweat ran down his temples. For a long time he stood up there motionless and then, almost desperately, dived in headlong. That child had earned a medal that day and was called a true hero. He went on to master diving and freestyle swimming and collected many swimming trophies over the years. I knew him well, as that frightened little boy was me.
